Sunny Sunwoo is a Limited Licensed Psychologist and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). She completed her Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology at the Michigan School of Psychology, with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).  Sunny received her practicum training at the University of Michigan Autism Consultation and Treatment Services (UMACTS) where she worked with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). While there, Sunny supported skill acquisition, enhanced behavior management, and promoted socially appropriate behaviors in partnership with parents.

In addition to the practicum experience at UMACTS, Sunny worked as an interpreter at the MDHHS – Center for Forensic Psychiatry as part of the treatment team to facilitate effective communication. Prior to her work in Clinical Psychology, Sunny completed a Master of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania concentrating on the behavior of organizations. This was followed by a brief period working in the Human Resources arena. It was there that Sunny realized she wanted to help people better understand themselves, instill self-agency to modify their behavior(s) rather than maintain their status quo.

With the training and mentorship by Dr. Ruth Anan, Sunny has built expertise in treating children with selective mutism and other anxiety disorders. Sunny enjoys helping children of all ages acquire new skills and improve their communication in a collaborative environment with caregivers and schools.

As a bilingual (Korean) Asian-American clinician, Sunny enjoys supporting individuals and communities who are new to the realm of mental health services. Recognizing that it can feel daunting to figure out the best mental health service(s) suited for the particular needs of a family. Sunny hopes to be a guide and a gateway to help families make informed decisions as they seek mental health services.
